The example databases are available for download at https://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1050 . The example database is pretty small (less than 1MB), so it should not take long to download and unzip into your SQL Server directory on your computer.
Once the files have been downloaded and extracted from the ZIP file, you should see six files in your directory:
AdventureWorks2008R2_CSDL.SQL – Contains the CREATE DATABASE statement for creating the AdventureWorks2008R2 database on SQL Server 2008 R2
AdventureWorks2008R2_MODEL.SQL – Contains the CREATE TABLE statements for creating all six tables in our example database
AdventureWorks2008R2_SSDL.SQL – Contains the ALTER TABLE statements for modifying several of the tables in our example database

The employee table has a lookup table for employee skills, which is the only non-EAV (entity-attribute-value) field in the entire database. The sample database also includes a simple CRUD application with PHP code.

The ManagerID column in this table is used to establish the relationship between employees and managers (the manager of an employee). The Employee Skills table contains a list of skills each employee possesses. This table also has a Foreign Key constraint that refers back to the Employee ID column in the Employee table. The Department table lists all departments in your company along with their respective managers’ names, department names and other attributes related to departments. The Department Manager table establishes relationships between managers by linking them with their respective departments via the ManagerID column. Finally, there are two lookup tables: Skill Lookup (which lists all known skills) and Skill List (which lists all skills assigned to employees).
