Step 1: Measure Your Bed

Step 2: Cut Your Door in Half
Once you have your measurements, it’s time to cut the door in half! Use a jigsaw to cut through both sides of the door at once so that you don’t have any gaps between them when you put them back together again later on in this project. You can use a circular saw if you don’t have access to a jigsaw, but keep in mind that this will take longer than using a jigsaw would because circular saws do not cut as quickly or smoothly as jigsaws do.
Step 3: Sand Down Your Door

Rustic door headboard with a plywood base. The frame was made from some old 2×4s that I had lying around the shop, but you could use any piece of wood for this project, even plywood or MDF would work just fine.
The door was painted white and then sanded down to reveal the wood grain underneath which was stained with Minwax Dark Walnut stain. The trim pieces were stained with Minwax Red Oak stain as well as Minwax WipeOn Polyurethane in Satin finish (I left them unfinished).
