How to build a snow igloo
If you have access to a large sheet of styrofoam, you can use this as the base for your igloo. The advantage of using styrofoam is that it keeps the walls insulated so that you don’t have to worry about them melting. But, since styrofoam is expensive and hard to find, it’s not recommended unless you are making a large structure.
Cut two pieces that are 9 feet long and one piece that is 4 feet wide (or larger). These will be the walls of your igloo. If they are not already white or light blue, paint them with white paint to keep them insulated.
Stand one piece up on its side and push it into another piece so that they overlap by about 6 inches or so. You want a wall thickness of at least 2 inches thick so that it’s sturdy enough for kids and adults alike!
Repeat with other pieces until all three pieces have been put together into one big rectangle shape that stands up on its own legs. Make sure there is at least 1 inch between each piece so that there is enough room inside for insulation materials and snow blocks!

In this Instructable I am going to show you how to make a miniature igloo out of styrofoam.
I have been wanting to do this for a while now but never got around to it because of the difficulty in finding the right materials
The first thing you will need is some styrofoam sheets, these can be purchased from any hardware store or even online, they come in all different thicknesses and sizes so you just have to find what you want (I used 1/2″ thick sheets)
The second thing that you need is some spray glue, I used an indoor/outdoor type but any kind should work fine (don’t use superglue as it melts the styrofoam)
After that all that is left is your imagination…and patience…this will take a while
Step 1: Purchase some styrofoam sheets. You can get these at any craft store or even the dollar store if you want to spend very little money.
Step 2: Cut out a large circle, about 6 inches in diameter. This will be your roof.
Step 3: Cut out a smaller circle, about 4 inches in diameter. This will be your doorway.
Step 4: Cut out two more circles, one that is 5 inches in diameter and another that is 3 inches in diameter. These will be used to create the walls of your igloo so they need to be smaller than the 6-inch circle you cut out for the roof (which serves as a wall as well).
Step 5: Cut out triangle shapes for each wall using the same method described above for cutting circles — just be sure to measure them first before cutting! If you have trouble getting clean straight cuts from your scissors or knife, try using masking tape on both sides of your paper or foam before cutting it out. This makes it easier to get straight edges and prevents your paper from fraying when you’re done cutting all of them out!
You can make an igloo out of clay. It is a lot less messy than the styrofoam version, and you can use it to decorate your room.
Step 1: Materials
You will need:
Clay (you can use any type of clay, but I recommend using Crayola Model Magic)
A thin cardboard box or cereal box (the smaller the better)
A small plastic bowl (or something similar)
“Glue” (I used white glue, but food coloring and water would work too)
Bamboo skewers or popsicle sticks for mixing the clay
How to make an igloo out of styrofoam
This is a fun activity to do with friends and family. It’s also a great way to recycle Styrofoam cups.
Materials:
Styrofoam cups (a minimum of 8)
Blue and white paint or construction paper
Permanent marker (optional)
Instructions:
1. Paint the Styrofoam cups blue, or cover them with white construction paper. You can also draw snowflakes on them with a permanent marker if you’d like. Allow them to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
2. Stack 4 cups together, with each one touching its neighbor on all sides except for the bottom layer, which should be free-standing (see photo below). Make sure that your stack forms an arch when viewed from above; if it doesn’t, adjust your arrangement until it does. This will become the top of your igloo! Continue stacking cups until you have 12 in total — 8 on top, 4 below — and then glue them together at their bases using hot glue or duct tape (or both!).

Igloos are the best thing ever, and now you can make one at home!
Step 1: Get some clay. You can use regular Play-Doh or Sculpey, both work well.
Step 2: Flatten out the clay into a circle that’s about a foot in diameter. It should be about ¼ inch thick. If you have trouble getting it smooth, try rolling it between two sheets of wax paper. This will flatten out any bumps or uneven spots in your igloo wall and make it even easier to apply the next layer of clay on top of it.
Step 3: Bake it according to directions on the package so that it hardens completely (about 25 minutes at 275°F). Make sure you remove the wax paper before baking so that the clay doesn’t stick to it while cooking!
Step 4: Once your first layer is baked, put another layer on top of that one, making sure that you overlap the edges slightly so that when you join them together there aren’t any gaps in between them where air could get in through cracks and cause your igloo to collapse from
