Step 1: Build the base.

Build a rectangular base out of bricks. The base needs to be large enough to hold your smoker, but not so big that it will take up too much space in your yard or garden. The height of the base should be no less than 18 inches, and should also allow for enough room for you to stand over it comfortably.

Step 2: Build the firebox.

Construct a box out of bricks that is large enough to hold all of your charcoal, wood chips and other smoking materials. This box should have an opening at one end with a door that can be opened and closed at will by hand or with a lever mechanism if you have one built into your smoker design. Make sure that you also include an opening on top where hot air can escape from the firebox when its door is opened as well as a chimney on top of this opening so smoke can pass through without being blocked by anything inside the box itself.

How to Build a Vertical Smoker Out of Bricks

Smokers are great for smoking meat and fish, but they can be expensive to buy. If you have the right materials, you can build one yourself for much less money.

Bricks are a good choice for building your own smoker because they’re cheap, easy to obtain and hold heat very well. You’ll also need a large drill bit and some elbow grease!

1) Mark out the base of your smoker on the ground with string and tape. This will be where you lay your bricks in preparation for building your smoker. 2) Mark out two bricks at each corner of your smoker base that will serve as support columns for the structure when it is complete. 3) Drill holes into each brick using your drill and large drill bit so that they will fit onto one another. 4) Stack your bricks up into piles according to size, making sure that the support columns fit together with one another when stacked on top of one another in different directions (ie; not all on top of one another). 5) Use mortar to glue together each brick layer until you have built up enough height

1. Get a smoker.

2. Make a chimney out of bricks or other materials.

To build a vertical smoker out of bricks, follow these steps:

Cut wooden boards into 3-foot lengths and attach them together with L-shaped metal brackets and screws. Place them on top of the bricks/blocks, making sure they’re level so that water won’t collect underneath them.

Place metal sheeting over top of the wooden boards, securing it in place with more L-shaped metal brackets and screws. If you’re using treated lumber like cedar or redwood, paint the metal sheeting before installing it so that the wood doesn’t come into contact with the metal during smoking (the chemicals could leach into your food).

Bricks – You will need enough bricks to build a box around your grill or smoker. The bigger the box, the longer it will take to cook your food and the more smoke it will hold in. I recommend using 2×4’s for framing around your grill or smoker if you want to keep it simple. If you want to make sure that everything is square, use metal studs instead of wood studs. They cost a little more but they’re worth it in my opinion because they don’t warp like wood does when exposed to moisture over time. Plus they look nicer than 2×4’s if that matters to you!

Waterproofer – Any waterproofer will work as long as it isn’t too thick or viscous when applied because it gets hot inside your smoker box and will not dry properly if it’s too thick or viscous when applied (that means thick like tar).
