Building a bench is an easy project that can be done in less than an hour. A bench is a great addition to any backyard, patio or front porch. The step-by-step instructions below will show you how to build a small sitting bench using materials such as cedar and pine.

Step 1 – Measurements

Use the measurements in the image above to determine the size of your bench.

Step 2 – Cut lumber for legs and seat supports

Cut four pieces of 3/4 inch by 3 inch lumber for each leg. Cut these pieces at 30 inches long each. Cut two more pieces at 30 inches long for each seat support piece. These will be cut out of 1 inch by 3 inch pine lumber, which can be purchased at your local home center or lumber yard. You may have to have them cut down if they don’t come in this dimension already cut down from 6 foot lengths of lumber into 4 foot lengths (we didn’t want to buy 8 foot long boards when we only needed 4 foot ones).

Step 3 – Attach legs to seat supports with pocket hole jig and screws

Attach each leg piece onto one end of each seat support piece with three pocket holes drilled through both pieces at once

A bench is a great addition to your landscape. It can be used as a place to sit and enjoy the outdoors, or it can double as a planter or flower box. A small bench makes an especially nice accent piece for patios and porches.

If you’re looking for an easy weekend project that will beautify your yard, building a small bench is just what you need. You can build this type of bench from cedar, redwood or other natural materials or you can use pressure treated lumber to make it last longer. The following steps will show you how to build a small sitting bench.

The first step in building a small sitting bench is to build the seat frame. The seat frame is made up of two pieces of 2×4 lumber that are attached to each other and to the legs with nails. Cut the 2x4s so they’re about 16 inches long and nail the ends together. You should have a rectangular box with open sides. Repeat this step with another 2×4 piece so you have two identical sides for your bench seat.

The next step is to attach these two pieces of wood together at one end. To do this, cut a notch in one end of one side so that it fits over the leg when it’s upside down (see photo). Put some glue on this notch and place it over the leg so that it slides into place easily but won’t fall off if you shake it around a bit. Then attach the other side by driving nails through its notch into the top of its counterpart on the other side (see photo). Make sure that both sides are tight against each other when you drive these nails into place so there’s no space between them; otherwise, your bench will sag when you sit on it!

Sitting benches are a great way to add seating to any outdoor space. They can be used as standalone pieces or in pairs, creating a cozy seating area. They’re also easy to build and don’t require much tools or materials.

Here’s how to build one:

1. Use a circular saw or jigsaw to cut the plywood into two 23″ x 43″ rectangles. If you don’t have access to power tools, hand tools work just fine — although they may take longer.

2. Drill holes for the screws that will hold the seat slats together (I recommend spacing them about every 12″). Make sure you have enough room between your holes so that you can get at least one screw into each slat without having to pull them apart first!

3. Cut 11⁄4″ x 1⁄4″ strips from 2x4s and attach them to the inside of the bench top with glue and countersunk screws every 3″. These will create a lip for attaching the seat slats later on.

4. Attach one end of each seat slat over the 2x4s using glue and countersunk wood screws (the top side of each

A good bench can also be used as a resting spot while mowing the lawn or working in the garden.

If you want to build your own small sitting bench, there are several ways to do it. The first step is choosing the right materials.

The seat of your bench should be made from a hardwood such as oak, maple or cherry. The legs should be made of treated wood so they will last longer outdoors. You’ll also need some 2x4s for the frame and 2x6s for the top of your seat. To attach these pieces together, use lag bolts with washers on each side of your joints so they stay sturdy over time.

This garden bench is the perfect addition to any outdoor space. The back slats are spaced wider than the seat slats, which make it easy to sit on. And because it’s made out of cedar, you don’t have to worry about people sitting on it and leaving stains or damaging your furniture.
