How to build a sliding barn door

This post covers the steps I used to build my sliding barn door. This is a project that can be done by anyone with some carpentry experience.

3. Cut the vertical members (2x4s) to length with a miter saw. Then cut the horizontal members (1x4s) to length as well, leaving them long for now.

4. Using a framing square and pencil, mark where each vertical member will be attached to each horizontal member on both sides of each door panel (see picture). You may want to predrill holes for screws in these locations so that they don’t split when being screwed in place later on.

5. Attach one end of each horizontal member to one end of each vertical member with 3″ screws (or longer if needed) through pilot holes drilled earlier in Step 4 above
