This post covers the steps I used to build my sliding barn door. This is a project that can be done by anyone with some carpentry experience.

Building a sliding barn door is not any more difficult than building a standard barn door. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that the sliding barn door only requires one additional part. The items for this project come from your local home improvement store and should total about $150 in materials. How to build a sliding barn door

How to build a sliding barn door

A sliding barn door is a classic way to hide your clutter. It’s also one of the easiest DIY projects you can tackle.

Here’s how to build a barn door with plywood, and how to build a 6-foot wide barn door for the biggest spaces.

You’ll need:

1×4 lumber (see our shopping list below)

2×2 lumber (see our shopping list below)

1×4 trim boards (see our shopping list below)

Wood screws (3″ or 4″) and drill/driver

Butt hinge kit or metal strap hinges (see our shopping list below)

The first step to building your own barn door is choosing the right material. To save money, you can use plywood or MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and paint or stain it to match your walls.

If you’re looking for a more durable material, consider using cedar or redwood boards. Cedar is naturally resistant to rot and insects, while redwood has a natural oil that repels water damage.

You’ll also need tools like a jigsaw, drill, screw gun and screws. If you don’t have all of these tools already, pick them up at your local hardware store when shopping for materials.

The first step in building a sliding barn door is measuring the space where you want it installed. The door should be 6 feet high if you want it flush with the ceiling — but if you want it lower than that, be sure to account for the height difference when cutting your lumber down to size.

Next, cut two pieces of 2×4 lumber into 40-inch lengths with a circular saw or power miter saw (depending on how large your 2x4s are). These will become your side rails for your new sliding barn door.DIY Barn Door Plans for Every Home

The first step to building a sliding barn door is to make the track. The track is the part of the door that slides along two parallel rails. The rails are mounted on the wall and ceiling with hinges, so that when you open or close the door, it will move along them.

To make your own track, measure the length of your wall from one end to another, then add 3 feet (1 m) for each side of your door. Then cut two pieces of plywood to this length (for example: If your wall is 12 feet long, cut 2 pieces of plywood that are 15 feet long).

For each piece of plywood, you’ll need to cut grooves in it where the rails will lay flat against it. First, mark off where each rail will be placed on one side of the plywood using a pencil and ruler. Then use a circular saw or jigsaw to carefully cut a groove in each spot where you marked off (use a clamp or other tool as needed so that your cuts stay straight).

Once you’ve completed both sides of each piece of plywood, stand them upright against your wall and measure up from where they’ll sit on the ground by an additional 1 inch (2.5 cm). Mark these measurements

Here are some of the features of this sliding barn door:

-It is made from 2x4s and 1x3s, which are all pressure treated lumber so it will last longer than normal wood

-The track is made from 1/2″ PVC pipe that has been cut down into 4″ lengths, which makes it easier to install than metal tracks since you don’t have to worry about cutting slots in the wood or making sure everything is level

-There are no hinges or pulleys on this project because we wanted it to look as clean as possible with no exposed hardware (this also makes it easier if you ever want to move). We also only used regular nails instead of screws because they’re stronger than screws and won

A sliding barn door is one of the most popular ways to add style and function to your home. It’s easy to install, and it can be customized with any number of finishes.

A sliding barn door is made up of two panels: a front panel that opens and closes, and a rear panel that stays put. The front panel slides on a track mounted on the top edge of the opening. The track can be installed directly on the wall or inside a window frame.

The most common option for installing a sliding barn door is to mount it inside an existing window frame, but you can also get creative and mount it in new construction or even outside your home.

One of the most popular topics on the internet right now is how to build a barn door. It seems like everyone wants one and they want it now!

The good news is that they are easy to build and can be made with a few basic tools and materials. The bad news is that you will have to decide what size you need before you start building since it may not be as easy to change later on. If you decide to use plywood for this project, here are some instructions for building a 6 foot wide barn door:

Step 1: Cut Your Materials

You will need three pieces of wood for this project – two 2x4s (or 4x4s) for the top and bottom rails and one sheet of plywood for the bottom panel. You can purchase these at your local hardware store or home improvement center. If you don’t have access to a saw, ask an employee at your local store if they can cut them down for you. In addition, you will need two hinges and two latch sets (one on each side) as well as some screws and nails or other fasteners needed to attach them together.

Step 2: Preparing Your Hardware & Holes

A barn door is a great way to add storage space, display items and hide unsightly things. They are also easy to build and install. This article will show you how to build a 6 foot wide barn door. The frame should be made from 2″x4″ lumber, but other sizes may be used if necessary.

The first step is to cut all of the pieces for the frame. You can make it any size that fits your needs, but this example uses 1/2″ plywood in order to make it easier to transport and so that you don’t have to cut out extra pieces of wood every time you want another size or shape of door. For this size door (6′ wide), you will need two sides (30″), two ends (10″), two rails (40″), two stiles (20″) and four cross-pieces (10″). I recommend using 1/2″ plywood for everything except the rails which should be 3/4″.

Next up is cutting out all of the shapes on your table saw or with jigsaw. If you are using plywood, make sure that all edges are square so that they fit together nicely when glued up later on. Also note that there is no need for anything fancy here since nobody

This DIY barn door project is all about the hardware. This is a great way to use up some scrap lumber and make a cool piece of furniture in your home. I made this door for my workshop, but you can use it anywhere in your house or office. You can build this door out of any wood that’s laying around your shop, but I chose pine because it’s cheap (relatively).

The size of the door will depend on how much space you have available, but I think 6 feet wide by 8 feet tall is a good size for most commercial applications. If you’re building this for your home, you may want to make it smaller so that it doesn’t take up too much space in your living room or kitchen!

Barn doors are a great way to hide clutter and add style to your home. They’re also simple to make if you have the right tools and materials.

This tutorial will show you how to build a barn door from plywood, with a few tips for making it easier.

Here’s what you’ll need:

3/4″ plywood

1″ x 2″ lumber (for frame)

1/2″ x 1 1/2″ lumber (for frame)

L-brackets (or other brackets)

Wood screws, 3/8″ or 1/2″ (depending on thickness of plywood)How to Build an Exterior Barn Door

1. Take your measurements and make sure to allow for the thickness of the 2x4s you’ll use. You can use 1x3s or 2x3s if you can’t find 5/4″ thick lumber, but this will make your door a bit flimsy.

2. If you are using wood that is not pressure treated, I suggest using a primer before painting or staining the wood.

3. Cut the vertical members (2x4s) to length with a miter saw. Then cut the horizontal members (1x4s) to length as well, leaving them long for now.

4. Using a framing square and pencil, mark where each vertical member will be attached to each horizontal member on both sides of each door panel (see picture). You may want to predrill holes for screws in these locations so that they don’t split when being screwed in place later on.

5. Attach one end of each horizontal member to one end of each vertical member with 3″ screws (or longer if needed) through pilot holes drilled earlier in Step 4 above
