What You Need:

While the door is still in one piece, remove all the hardware and measure its dimensions. Transfer the measurement to a sheet of 1/2-inch exterior-grade plywood and cut it out with a jigsaw.
Reconnect the door to the frame and apply construction adhesive to the backside of the jamb. Press it into position on your new door frame and nail it down with 1-1/4-inch deck screws.
If you’re working with an interior door, use a similar technique and notch out sections of wallboard so that it fits around both sides of your door jamb.
Cut 2x4s to length for the top and bottom plates, then mark where they should go on your floor joists or ceiling rafters. Drill pilot holes in each end of each plate and drive 3-inch screws through them into their respective joists or rafters.
If you’re installing an exterior door, however, there’s no need to notch out sections of wallboard because they’ll cover up any gaps created by notching out sections of wallboard anyway (see step 4 above). Instead, just screw 2x4s directly into their respective joists or rafters as shown below:

The framing for a deck is simple enough that you can use pressure-treated lumber, but if you’re building a large deck or one that will be exposed to the elements, it’s a good idea to use cedar.
Cedar is naturally resistant to rot and decay. It also holds paint better than pressure-treated lumber, so it requires less maintenance.
Here are the basics of framing a deck:
Cut all 2x6s to length before assembly. Most decks are 6 feet wide, but some may be 7 feet wide or even 8 feet wide if you have extra room on your lot or want extra space for entertaining.
Fasten the 2x6s together using galvanized screws with star drive heads (this type of screw has four blunt points that grip better than ordinary screws). If you’re using treated lumber, use stainless steel screws because they won’t rust as quickly as galvanized ones.
Make sure that each joist rests on a ledger board before fastening it down with screws. A ledger board is a horizontal piece of lumber fastened directly to the house foundation, which supports each joist as well as any other materials that might be added below it (such as plywood).
