The Freedom Tower celebrated its 10th anniversary this past weekend. The tower opened on May 28, 2013 as the tallest building in New York City and held the title for only 2 years before One World Trade Center was erected. I thought it would be interesting to find out exactly how much it cost to build this iconic skyscraper — not just in total, but also per floor and per square foot.
How much did it cost to build the freedom tower
World Trade Center 2022 is a project by the World Trade Center Association, which represents the owners and operators of commercial office buildings in Lower Manhattan. The association is responsible for planning, developing and managing the site.
The WTCA has hired Olin Partnership to develop a master plan for the rebuilding of ground zero. The plan will include two skyscrapers — one tower will be 1,776 feet tall, while another will be 1,170 feet tall — as well as three other buildings and an underground space that will house a memorial museum.
The group hopes to begin construction on all five structures by 2022, but it’s unclear how much this ambitious timeline will cost.
The Freedom Tower, also known as One World Trade Center, is a skyscraper in Lower Manhattan. Construction began in 2006, and the building was completed in 2014. The Freedom Tower stands 1,776 feet (541 meters) tall.
As of May 2019, the Freedom Tower had been sold for $2.2 billion.
The total cost of construction is estimated at $3.1 billion, including the building itself, infrastructure improvements and security costs. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is responsible for funding the project through bonds and other debt instruments issued by the authority’s subsidiary corporations.
The Port Authority has pledged to pay back $1 billion per year over 40 years from future revenues generated by leasing out office space in One World Trade Center. In addition to this payment plan, the Port Authority will use revenues from its airports and bus terminals to pay back debt related to rebuilding ground zero after September 11 attacks on September 11th 2001
The Freedom Tower is a 104-story supertall skyscraper under construction as part of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It replaced Tower 1 of the original World Trade Center and was designed by architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with chief designer Jed Walentas Studio. The building’s height of 1,776 feet (541 m) upon completion will make it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and the third tallest building in the world by pinnacle height.
The Freedom Tower’s construction began on April 27, 2006. The tower’s concrete core reached a structural height of 408 feet (124 m) and was topped out on August 30, 2009 when workers poured the last concrete for its foundation. Its steel structure topped out at 1,224 feet (373 m) and became operational on November 11, 2013 when it reached its full height of 1,368 feet (417 m).
The Freedom Tower will have 200 floors above ground as well as 3 floors below ground for mechanical equipment. The base will be 4 acres (16,000 m2), including 2 acres (8,000 m2) occupied by the lobby area; it will be open to visitors daily from 8AM-8PM
The World Trade Center site had been a major transportation hub for the city, connecting Manhattan with New Jersey via PATH trains and ferries to New Jersey. The site was less than a quarter-mile from Battery Park and the Hudson River.
The first proposal for what became the World Trade Center complex was made in 1947 by David Rockefeller, who proposed a new international trade center in Lower Manhattan. The current site was selected by developer Larry Silverstein, on land that was occupied by low-rise commercial buildings and small warehouses. It was largely occupied by trucking companies, whose warehouses were considered obsolete. Groundbreaking took place on August 5, 1966.
The construction project employed over 4300 workers at its peak and proceeded 24 hours a day; with an estimated cost of $750 million (in 1967 dollars), it took 13,000 workers over 26 months to build the Twin Towers, which were completed in 1972. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey took control of the complex on April 30, 1977 as part of an agreement with Silverstein.[citation needed]
The towers were designed as framed tubes[citation needed] along the lines proposed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in his 1904 design for Broadacre City.[citation needed] Wright believed that tall buildings
The Freedom Tower, built on the site of the original Twin Towers, was completed in 2014 at a cost of $3.9 billion. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey funded the project and hired architect David M. Childs to design it. When complete, the 1,776-foot building will be the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
The Freedom Tower was designed to meet LEED certifications and other sustainability standards. It is expected to use 40 percent less energy than a typical commercial office building and produce 75 percent less carbon dioxide emissions.
The tower’s 104 floors are home to more than 1,000 businesses and organizations including Condé Nast Publications and Vantone Bank USA Inc., as well as restaurants like Shake Shack and Hudson Eats.[1]

The World Trade Center, the Twin Towers and One World Trade Center were all destroyed on September 11th 2001. The 9/11 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and Washington, D.C. on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks involved hijacking multiple airliners and flying them into buildings including the Twin Towers and Pentagon in Washington D.C.. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and many independent scientific inquiries concluded that both impacts and subsequent fires caused the collapse of all three buildings at the World Trade Center site.

World Trade Center is a complex of buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was destroyed by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and rebuilt as One World Trade Center.
