Fruits have always been an integral part of our diets and they are exported all over the world. The most exported fruit in the world is banana; out of which, India exports more than half of it.

Here is a list of the most exported fruits from India:

Banana: It is the most exported fruit from India, out of which 90% is exported to Russia and CIS countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Mango: It holds second position in terms of export volume, with 60% of it being exported to Russia and CIS countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus etc.

Guava: Most Guavas are exported to Russia and CIS countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan etc., followed by the US market where fresh Guavas are imported from Mexico through Central America (Panama).

Grapes: Grapes are mainly exported to Europe and North America where they are used for wine making purpose or as table grapes or raisins (dried grapes).

Fruit export is a common practice in many countries, especially those with tropical climates. The most common fruits exported include bananas, strawberries, apples, oranges, grapes and pineapples.

Exports of fruit are subject to certain regulations that differ from country to country. For example, Australia requires that all fruit be treated before export to prevent the spread of pests and diseases that could harm native species. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulates the sale of all imported fruit and vegetable products through its Phytosanitary Certificate Program. Exporters must comply with USDA requirements to guarantee their products are safe for consumption.

Fruit exports from India have grown at an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 11% during FY 2012-13 to FY 2016-17 (April-March). During this period, it increased from INR 687 crores in FY 2012-13 to INR 1390 crores in FY 2016-17 (April-March).

Fruit is one of the most valuable food crops in the world. The fruit industry contributes to the economy not only through exports but also through employment. It has been estimated that around 30 million people worldwide are employed by this industry.

Indians are known for their love for fruits. They consume a large variety of locally grown fruits like mangoes, papayas, custard apples, jackfruit etc., as well as imported ones like oranges and apples.

India is among the top 20 countries in the world in terms of fruit production and ranks 11th in overall production of fruits (see table). India produces close to 400 different varieties of fruits including indigenous ones like mangoes, bananas, guavas and citrus fruits (lemons, limes) as well as exotic ones like grapes, apples etc.. India’s major fruits include mangoes (60%), bananas (21%), guavas (7%) and papayas (5%).

Fruit exports are a significant source of income for many countries. In 2017, the United States exported $1.5 billion worth of fruits, including apples, oranges, grapefruits and strawberries. China exported $871 million worth of fruits in 2017, followed by Spain at $734 million and Italy at $678 million.

United States – $530 million (11%)

The top fruit exports of the world are bananas, pineapples and mangos. Bananas have been exported since the 19th century and continue to be one of the most popular fruits today. This is largely because they can be shipped and stored easily, making them perfect for shipping across large distances. Pineapples are an excellent source of vitamins A, C and B6 as well as having many other health benefits. Mangoes are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants that help protect against free radicals.
