We have an arbor swing that we built in our backyard. It is made of cedar and has a great rustic look to it.
The arbor swing frame is made from 1” x 4” boards, which were cut to length with a miter saw and then nailed together by hand. The crossmembers were spaced at 16” on center and the top rails were spaced at 48” on center.
To attach the frame to the post, I drove 3/8” lag screws through the bottom of each joist into the post. I also drilled holes through each post into the end of each joist (with a hole saw) so that I could drive lag screws into them as well.
