Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, academic search, news search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

The term is commonly used to refer to optimization techniques that increase a site’s ranking in organic searches performed by non-paid inclusion (“natural” or “organic”) on an unpaid basis. SEO does not need to focus exclusively on technical optimizations that target code or markup; indeed there are several other important areas of online marketing that do not always have an impact on specific content codified within a website but which can influence how its information is found by Web crawlers and systematic indexers.

I. Introduction

Search engine optimization is the practice of improving the amount and quality of traffic to a website by increasing the visibility of its content in search engines via manipulation of the site’s metadata and web links. Search engine optimization (SEO) is made up of two main components:

On-page SEO – This refers to all the changes you make to your website to make it easier for search engines to crawl and understand it. These include creating a sitemap, using structured data markup, improving internal linking structure and adding headings, alt tags, captions, etc. All of these things help search engines understand what your page is about and how to rank it accordingly.

Off-page SEO – This refers to anything you do off of your website that affects its ranking in search results. Things like link building with relevant sites, guest blogging on sites that are related to yours, social media sharing are all examples of off-page SEO strategies.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is an Internet marketing strategy for creating and implementing components that are aimed at improving a website’s organic search rankings in SERPs so that it is more likely to appear at the top of a relevant Google or other search engine result page when a user enters a query related to one or more of its products or services.

The goal of search engine optimization is to ensure that your website appears high up on Google’s first pages when people search for your product or service.
