When you think of Indian formal wear, what do you see? If you are like me, you probably think of an elegant red Banarsi suit, perfect white shirt and a colorful silk turban. For years I played around with the idea of designing a suit that could be worn for formal occasions such as weddings and parties or for business functions like interviews. When I finished weaving the first cloth I immediately knew I was on to something good. This awesome fabric had a nice soft texture and a very comfortable feel when it touched the skin. It had depth, was thick and yet light weight at the same time. I am sure after wearing one of these suits, you will appreciate how they are more than just clothing — they are an extension of your personality that speaks volumes about who you are!
“I have never owned a red Banarsi suit. I have never had the chance to lay my hands on one, let alone try it on. “Well then?” somebody might ask, with a great deal of surprise and some amount of contempt, “how can you write about it?” It is quite simple. “Everybody has seen a Red Banarsi Suit at least in pictures or perhaps in real life. It is as basic an attire as it can get. “Well then?” comes the inevitable question once again, with the same amount of surprise and contempt as before – only this time its pitch has risen by at least two decibels, “when were you ever in India?! How on earth did you manage to spot someone wearing one? That itself must have been some experience!”

Dupatta: This is one of my favorite dupattas. It has been stitched by my mother. I bought this dupatta from a shop in Banaras. The shopkeeper was very helpful and gave me many tips on how to wear it. She told me that the style of wearing it depends on the occasion and also on your body type. The dupatta should be worn in such a way that it doesn’t look like a scarf or a shawl. If you have shorter height, then you have to tie it higher than your shoulder bone. When you have a longer height, then you can tie it at the lowest part of your waistline or even lower than that if you want to give an illusion of having a petite figure like me!
Dress: This is another dress which I bought from the same shop in Banaras. It has been stitched by my mother too but with different patterns on both sides of the fabric which makes it look very colorful when worn together with dupatta!
