How to build a storage box

Oftentimes we think that building a storage box is really difficult. But this article will show you a detailed tutorial how to make your own storage box by using plywood and other simple materials. Whether you want to store things, clothes or make it as a gift for your family or friends, the storage box can be applied in different purposes.

For many of us, having a storage box is an essential feature of any home. A good storage box can help us to keep our house clean, tidy and organized. However, making a storage box isn’t as easy as it sounds. The quality just isn’t usually there. Making a box out of wood would normally require expensive tools that most people don’t have. At least not the ones we own at home for general DIY projects. How to build a storage box

How to build a storage box

Have you ever needed a simple storage box, but didn’t want to pay the price? Here is how to build a storage box out of plywood, so you can have one on hand whenever you need it.

This project is easy to make and can be completed in less than an hour. The only tools needed are a saw (jigsaw or table saw), drill and screwdriver.

Materials:

1 sheet of ¾” plywood (4’x8′)

8 hinges with screws

Tools:

Saw (table saw or jigsaw)

Drill and bit set

The storage box is a great place to store your tools and other things that you need on a regular basis. This is an easy project that you can do in a weekend, if you have the time. You will need:

1 sheet of plywood (4′ x 8′)

3/4″ plywood (2′ x 4′)

2 hinges and screws

Wood glue or construction adhesive

Wood filler (optional)

Step 1 – Cut the pieces of wood for the sides of the box. The two sides are made out of one 4′ x 8′ sheet of plywood. You will need two 2′ x 4′ pieces cut from 3/4″ plywood to be used as supports in step 2. If you have access to a table saw, this part will go much faster than it would with a circular saw or hand saw. Measure and mark where your cuts should go and then cut them out using either a circular saw or table saw (or both).

Step 2 – Attach the supports for the hinged lid on each side panel using glue and nails or screws so that they are centered over each corner of the side panels. Make sure that they are flush against each other so that there are no gaps between them when they are attached

The most common type of storage box is the large plastic bin with a lid. These bins can be found at almost any store in a variety of sizes and colors. You can also buy the plastic bins with built-in lids, which are very convenient if you don’t want to cut your own.

If you’re not looking for something that’s going to last a lifetime, these bins will work just fine. The problem with using these types of storage boxes is that they aren’t very sturdy and can become damaged easily if transported outside or dropped on the floor.

The other option is to build your own storage box out of plywood. This method will give you more flexibility when it comes to size and shape, as well as strength and durability. It also gives you the opportunity to customize your box to suit your needs exactly how you want it!

Plywood is made up of thin sheets of wood glued together under pressure in order to make them stronger than solid wood planks would be on their own. Because it’s made up of layers, the plywood can be cut into any shape or size needed in order to make furniture or other items like this storage box!

Step 1: Cut the lumber

The first step is to cut the plywood into the sizes needed for the box. In this case, we’re building a box that’s 24″ x 24″ x 24″, so we need four pieces of plywood with dimensions of 12″ x 12″ and one piece of plywood that’s 12″ x 24″.

Step 2: Cut the hinge mortises

The next step is to cut out the hinge mortises in all four sides of the box. A hinge mortise is simply a pocket that’s cut into a board or panel so that it can accept a hinge pin.

Use your jigsaw or router and straightedge guide bit to cut out the hinge mortises in each side piece of your storage box. Set your router depth so that your cutting bit will just barely touch the bottom edge of your side pieces when you place them on top of your extra length of plywood. That way, when you rout out these mortises, you’ll end up with a pocket for your hinges that goes all the way through both sides of your box.

This is a simple storage box that can be built with just a few pieces of plywood, some hinges, and a few nails or screws.

It’s great for storing small items, like toys or tools, but it can also be used as a toy chest or blanket chest.

It’s sturdy enough to hold up to 200 pounds!

This project is easy enough for beginners, but also has some fun details that make it interesting for more advanced woodworkers as well.

Cut the lid: Cut out the top of the box by tracing around the lid onto your plywood. Use your jigsaw to cut along the line, making sure you don’t cut any deeper than 1/2-inch.

Sand and finish the inside panel: Sand down all the edges and corners of your plywood piece until they are smooth. Then apply two coats of primer and two coats of paint. You can use any color you like, but we chose white for this project since it will be sitting in our bathroom. Make sure to let each coat dry fully before applying another one!

Drill holes for hinges: The hinges need holes drilled into them so that they will fit onto the wooden box. Use a drill bit that’s about 1/4 inch wide, but make sure that it’s long enough to reach through both layers of wood when you’re done drilling! It might help if you use a drill press or clamp down your work piece securely so that it doesn’t move around while you’re drilling. Once all four holes are drilled, set aside until later in this project.

This is a step by step guide on how to build a storage box with hinged lid out of plywood. The project can be completed in just a few hours and requires basic tools and skills. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Prepare the materials

First, you need to prepare the materials. You will need one sheet of 3/4-inch plywood that measures at least 18 inches by 18 inches, two hinges that are 4 inches long, two locks (you can use one lock if you have only one hinge), screws and nails (not shown). For this tutorial, I used pine wood but you can use any type of wood that you like. Also make sure that the grain on your plywood runs across the width of the board (see photo below).

Step 2: Cut out the pieces

Next, cut out all four pieces as shown in the diagram below. Make sure to use a circular saw or jigsaw to cut out your shapes so they fit nice and snug together (no gaps). You can also use chisels or hand saws if you don’t have access to power tools but it might take longer than using a jigsaw or circular saw because those tools are faster and easier to work with than

This is a fairly easy project, but it does require some patience and attention to detail.

But it’s worth it. You can make this storage box out of plywood and use it to store all sorts of things in your home or garage.

The first step is to cut the pieces for the box. You’ll need two sides, two ends, and a bottom. I’ve included measurements for each piece below so you can print them out for reference if you’d like. Once you have your pieces cut, assemble your box using glue and nails/screws (I used glue). Make sure that your joints are tight and square so that they don’t come apart later on. The hinges should be installed on the inside of the box — this way they won’t be visible when the lid is closed (see “Additional Info” below).

Additional Info: If you want your box to look more professional or make it easier to build, use a router or jigsaw to round over all edges before assembling them together with glue and nails/screws as shown in step 2 above.

Storage boxes are great for storing all kinds of things. You can use them to store your tools, toys, or even your clothes. The best part about this project is that it’s really easy and cheap to build one yourself.

1.Cutting out the sidesWhile They Snooze: How to Build an Outdoor Storage Box

The first thing you need to do is cut out the sides of your box from some plywood or other sheet goods. You’ll want to make sure that each side is at least 4 inches deep and 6 inches wide. You can also use any other material you want, but I prefer plywood because it’s cheap and easy to work with.

2.Drilling holes for hinges

Next, we’ll drill holes where we want our hinges to go so that we can attach them later on in the process when everything else is done. Make sure you mark these locations beforehand so that you don’t drill into anything important!

3.Attaching the bottom

Now we’re going to attach our bottom piece onto the bottom of both sides using screws and wood glue (or another adhesive). This will keep it all together while we add on more pieces! You’ll want this piece bigger than both sides combined so that there’s enough room for

The materials you need to build this box are:

-A sheet of plywood (I used ¾” plywood)

-Wood glue

-Wood screws

-A drill with a screwdriver bit

-Sandpaper or a sander (optional)
