How to build a couch with springs
In this video I will show you how to build a couch with springs. This is the easiest way to make an indoor sofa at home. It’s also cheap and easy to make. You don’t need any special tools or materials to make it. You can use any old wood you have lying around the house.
Materials needed:
Old chairs or sofas (you can buy these cheaply from second hand shops)
Nails and hammer
Wood glue
Spring is one of the most common materials used in the manufacture of sofas, because it has excellent elasticity. It is also easy to find, and cheap. The only downside is that spring can be easily damaged when you are moving it around, but this is not a big deal if you know how to build a couch with springs.
Here are some steps you can follow:
1. Cut the springs into smaller pieces so they will fit into your couch frame. The length of each spring should be between 12 and 14 inches long if you have standard size fabric panels (22″ x 22″).
2. Measure the length of your frame and cut the fabric accordingly in order to cover all surfaces of this frame completely including the backrests and seat cushions as well as any arm rests that you might want on your new sofa set.
3. Place each spring inside the cover and pin it securely using straight pins so that it doesn’t move around while sewing them together into one single piece using a sewing machine or by hand if you don’t have access to an electrical machine at home
Step 1: Measure the length of the seat and the width of the back. Add 1 inch to both measurements. This will allow for the fabric and batting to be wrapped around the frame.
Step 2: Cut 2X4s to these measurements and place them on top of each other in an “L” shape with the longest side facing up. We used three boards for each side, but you can use fewer if you have a small space or want a smaller sofa.
Step 3: Place screws into each corner and secure them together with your screw gun.
Step 4: Place a nail gun against one end piece and secure it by setting nails through the wood and into your workbench. Flip over this end piece so that now it is sitting on top of your workbench instead of below it, then continue securing it in place with nails until all four sides are secured in place.
Step 5: Using an angle grinder or jigsaw, cut out holes where your springs will go (this should be around 6 inches from the edge). Place one spring in each hole and secure using a nut and bolt on each end of each spring (you may need help holding this down while securing).
