How to build a gasser front end

Gasser cars instantly grab the attention of viewers. These cars are customized so well that they seem to jump right off the screen at you. You’ve seen them in movies and TV shows and always stop to stare at them whenever they pass by you. Building a gasser might seem like a tedious task but with a little research, you can find all kinds of useful information online to get started.

This is a step by step guide originally written on the SuperChevy Community Forums. It shows you how to build you own complete ‘GasSeller’ front end. This was a style made popular by manufacturers from Iowa, it has a long and narrow glass nose,complete straight axle front end kit

I wrote this guide because I felt it was important to teach new modelers how to do things correctly the first time, and get it right the first time as opposed to making them redo everything over again.

How to build a gasser front end

The most common way to build a gasser front end is to use the complete straight axle conversion kit. This kit includes everything you need to convert your front suspension and steering to a straight axle setup. The kit includes:

The frame mount kit.

A set of wheel adapters that allow you to bolt on your existing wheels and tires.

A new spindle that accepts the wheel studs from your stock wheel and hub assembly.

A brake drum and brake shoes, or calipers and rotors if you want disc brakes.

The straight axle conversion kit is ready to install. This kit includes a pair of front axles, center section, spindles, brake lines and spacers. This kit will work with any model front end setup including the new Pro-Line’s 2.2 aluminum front end. The axle mounts are spaced for a 4 link but can be easily modified for a 5 link system with some cutting and welding.
