Building a gardening table is something everyone should be able to do. It’s very rewarding and is not a difficult project to complete. I have built these tables for years and have used them for 80% of my gardening activities. They have been perfect to have from seed starting to sitting in the sun having coffee while reading the morning paper, or working on my computer using the natural light coming in. I wanted something that was sturdy, would last for many years, easy to move when necessary (mow the lawn), and something that would look nice — both in my backyard as well as other gardens where they’ve been used.

How to Make a Potting Bench Out of an Old Dresser

1) Remove the drawers from the dresser. You can either remove them by hand or take them apart with a screwdriver.

2) Using wood glue and nails, attach the drawer fronts to each other, creating one large piece of wood.

The first step in building a potting bench from an old dresser is to attach two pieces of plywood on both sides of the top using glue and screws. We used 4×4 posts for legs because they are heavy-duty but they do take up more space than 2×4 or 2×6 posts. If you would like to use lighter legs then you can use 2×4 or 2×6 lumber instead. How to Build a Potting Bench - This Old House

Next, cut some 2x4s and screw them into place so that they form supports for the plywood shelf on top of the dresser. Make sure that you drill pilot holes first before attaching these supports so that they don’t split when you drive the screws into them!
