I’ve built a few farmhouse tables myself and I’m going to show you how to build one of your own. This one is 7 feet long but the same techniques can be used for any length table you need.
The first step is to determine the size of the wood you will need for each project. We’ll use pine for this example since it’s inexpensive and easy to work with:
Table top: 4 x 8 feet (4 x 48″ pieces)
Legs: 1 x 8 feet (16″ pieces)

Here’s what you’ll need:
1x8x8 furring strips (for the table base)
2x4x8 lumber (for the tabletop)
Heavy duty glue (such as Gorilla Glue)
7 foot farmhouse table plans – This is a super simple project. I made this table top out of 2x7s and 2x6s. It’s a great size for a large family, or to use in a kitchen as an island, or even just as extra seating around the house.
2x6s are actually 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, so they fit perfectly inside the 2x7s. You can also use 2x4s if you want to save money on lumber costs, but you’ll have to make sure that they’re straight enough for your furniture needs!
I used pocket hole screws for all of my joinery on this project, but if you don’t own pocket hole jigs yet, you can use regular screws and drill holes in the ends of your boards instead (just make sure that you’re drilling far enough away from the edges so that when it comes time to stain or paint them, there won’t be any chips).

How to Build a Farmhouse Table
1. Cut the side panels, top and bottom panels, and skirts.
2. Assemble the legs and attach them to the top with pocket holes along the top edge.
3. Attach the skirt to the leg assembly with pocket hole screws from below.
4. Attach the side panels to the legs using glue and 1-1/2″ pocket hole screws on each end of the side panel (two screws per end). Don’t screw through into the top panel! You’ll need to leave an 1/8″ gap between your joint and where it meets the edge of your workbench to allow any glue squeeze out to escape and not make a mess during assembly.5. Attach your tabletop support rails (longer than your actual tabletop width) to each side of your table using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws on each end of rail (four screws per end). Don’t screw through into your top panel!6. Attach one end of cross support rail to one side rail using glue and 2-1/2″ pocket hole screws on each end (four screws per end). Don’t screw through into workbench!7. Attach
When I was a kid, I used to play with Legos. All day long. I’d build all kinds of different things: houses, cars, planes and more. Most of them were made out of rectangular blocks that my mom would buy for me at the store. But there was one project that she let me make from scratch: a table.
