Ken Block is well known for his drifting skills, but he’s also a noted speed freak. That’s why it should come as no surprise that he’s planning to build and race a special Mustang for the 2016 Global Rallycross Championship.
Ken Block has been competing in the series since 2013, and has won two titles with his Ford Fiesta ST. This year he’ll be back behind the wheel of an 800-horsepower Ford Fiesta ST RX43 rallycross car that features a custom cage, roll cage, and safety features.
Block will also be running an all-new Ford Focus RS RX rallycross car that features an upgraded 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that puts out 600 horsepower. The Focus is based on the road-going version of the RS, but has been modified by Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) for competition use.
Ken Block will be racing both cars at X Games 16 in Los Angeles this week (August 5–7).
Ken Block’s latest project is a 1965 Ford Mustang. He’s calling it the Hoonicorn V2, and it’s been built with the help of Ford Performance for the upcoming Gymkhana 10 video series.
The Hoonicorn V2 will be powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that’s been modified to produce 750 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 664 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine features fully custom internals, including a new crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons.
As we’ve mentioned in previous articles about Ken Block’s projects, this isn’t his first time working with Ford Performance. In fact, he helped develop the Focus RS RX rallycross car that competed in Pikes Peak earlier this year.

Ken Block’s Ford Mustang Hoonicorn RTR is the first set of Ford Performance Parts to be offered to the public, and it is a beast. The engine is based on the 5.0-liter V8 found in the GT350 and GT350R, which makes 550 horsepower and revs to 8,250 rpm. It has an upgraded cooling system and intake manifold, ported heads with larger valves, a larger throttle body, and high-flow fuel injectors.
The suspension has also been modified for track use with adjustable dampers and coilovers at all four corners. The brakes have been upgraded with six-piston calipers that are similar to those used on the GT350R.
