History [ edit ]

Google Domains was first announced in October 2016 as a project from Google to provide domain registration services.[2] It was officially released on December 16, 2016.[3] The service was initially only available to users in the United States, but it has since expanded to other countries.[4]

The initial launch had several technical issues that were resolved over the course of the next few days.[5][6] On January 10, 2017, Google announced that it had acquired Wildcard SSL certificates for all domains registered through its service.[7] In March 2017, Google announced that it would begin offering email forwarding services along with its existing DNS controls.[8]

On May 5th 2018, Google announced that it would be adding .blog domains to its portfolio of extensions available for registration through the platform. This followed their acquisition of Blogger which was subsequently integrated into G Suite[9].

Google Domains is a domain registration service that allows you to register your domain name and manage it in one place. You can use Google Domains to find, register, and manage domains of all types.

Domains registered through Google Domains include a free HTTPS (SSL) certificate for the first year of registration. After the first year, you can renew your HTTPS certificate at an affordable price if you want to keep using it.

Google Domains offers a variety of other features that make managing your website simple and easy:

Free migrations – Move your domain to Google with no downtime or interruption in service. We’ll move all content from your current domain host over to your new Google Domain account so that everything looks good on our end too.

Customizable DNS – Control how people get to your site by customizing the DNS settings for your domain. For example, if you have multiple subdomains for different parts of your website, you can set up each one differently so they show up where you want them to when someone types in their browser address bar.

Google Domains is the easiest way to own your website address. You can buy or transfer a domain, set up DNS and Google Apps for Business, and point your domain to any site you want.

In addition to a free year of registration, all domains on Google Domains automatically receive one year of free Whois privacy protection — which means that your personal contact information will not be listed in the public WHOIS database.

Google Domains is a domain registration service that lets you purchase domains directly from Google. It’s currently in beta, but it’s expected to launch in full sometime this year.

The service is actually a subdomain of Google Apps, so it works with the same login credentials as your Google account. This means you can use any of your existing Google Apps tools, like Gmail or Drive, with Google Domains. You can also sign up for hosting with them separately — I’ll talk about that below.
