French doors provide a great way to connect your interior and exterior spaces, but they can be difficult to access with a pet door. If you need a doggy door for your new French doors, here are some ideas for how to do it.

French doors are typically made from two hinged panels that open inward toward each other, like traditional sliding glass doors. This makes them difficult to install pet doors through because there’s no way for the flap to slide into the space between the panels when they’re closed. The only solution is to install your pet door before you install your new French doors.

If you already have purchased or installed your custom French doors, don’t worry! There are several ways you can still get a dog door that will work with them:

1) Install a hinge wall. Instead of installing the pet door directly into one of the panels, install it on an adjacent wall or other surface that won’t interfere with closing or opening the door. This might require drilling holes into the wall or adding screws through drywall anchors; consult with your contractor about how best to install this type of wall-mounted dog door so.

Can you put a pet door in a french door?

Yes, but this is a much more difficult installation. The glass panel cannot be removed from the frame and then reinstalled without breaking or cracking the glass or frame. If you have an exterior door that opens outwards, you can install your pet door on the inside of the glass panel. This will allow for easier cleaning and maintenance of your pet door. However, if you have an interior door that opens inwards, you will need to remove all of the glass from the frame, remove any caulking used in the installation process and cut away at least two inches of wood from each side of your opening in order to install your custom dog door.

Dog Door Solutions for French Doors:

There are three options available when installing a dog door into a french door:

1) Install a dog door on one side of the french doors (only one side will open).

2) Install two separate doors into each side of your french doors (both sides will open).

3) Install only one half-moon shaped pet flap in between both halves of your french doors so that they operate as one unit (does not require additional installation).
