1.4.2.1 Objective and Description of the Business Plan
The main objective of this business is to introduce a new variety of maize seeds in Kenya, which is called “Sweet Corn”. This crop has been introduced to replace the traditional maize grown in Kenya because it is more nutritious and has a sweeter taste compared to the normal maize that is found in Kenya. Sweet corn is also known as “Su maiz” by the Spanish speaking community and “Anaheim” by the Americans.
In order to achieve this objective, we will introduce sweet corn seedlings into the market through direct selling and through our own farm where we will plant them on a large scale for commercial purposes (selling). The sweet corn seedlings will be sold at an affordable price compared to other varieties of maize seeds such as those used for baking flour and cooking oil production (Maize Millers). Our customers will come from both urban and rural areas who would like to have fresh sweet corn for their families or even for sale purposes. We have identified four different types of customers who fall into two categories:
1) Urban Customers: These are people who live in cities such as Nairobi or Mombasa but their farms are located outside city
A business plan for sweet corn farming is a plan for a farm or business that intends to sell sweet corn. Sweet corn is one of the most popular vegetables in the world. It is a very healthy food and can be used for many different dishes. Because of this, there are many people who want to grow their own sweet corn or start a business selling it.

MAIZE FARMING PLAN OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE (UNNARI), ABUJA.
UNNARI SPECIAL PROJECT NO. 771/R/1/02 Nigeria’s maize production and consumption situation is unique in the world in that it is the only major producer that consumes more than it produces. In fact, the country imports maize from other countries just to meet its domestic demand. This situation poses a serious problem for the nation as it requires billions of dollars to import and pay for foreign exchange every year, which could be saved with a well-designed and well-managed maize crop.
The government has therefore embarked on an ambitious program of producing more food for Nigerians by improving agricultural productivity through research, extension and training to increase food production and improve farm incomes. To this end, UNNARI has been mandated to carry out an investigation into the viability of maize farming in Nigeria, especially in the South-East zone of the country.
Maize farming is one of the most important agricultural enterprises all over the world. The production of maize, which is also known as corn, has been on the rise since it was introduced in Nigeria in the 1950s.
Maize farming is generally done using two types of methods: conventional and improved. The conventional method involves planting seeds directly into the soil while the improved method involves sowing seeds into trays and transplanting them later into the field.
There are many benefits of maize farming, including:
It helps to improve household food security since it produces both edible and non-edible products (e.g., fodder).
It helps to reduce poverty by providing farmers with additional income through selling their produce or livestock at local markets or even exporting them to other countries for profit.
It aids in reducing hunger among Nigerians by providing them with food items such as maize meal, porridge and flour which are rich sources of carbohydrates that can be used to make other dishes like fufu and pounded yam among others.
