WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. WordPress is the most popular blogging tool in use today, with over 75 million websites using it. The software was originally created by Matt Mullenweg as a fork of b2/cafelog, which was created by Michel Valdrighi in 2001.
WordPress was released on May 27, 2003. It has since become the largest self-hosted blogging tool in existence with over 74 million websites running it.[4]
WordPress has been translated into over 100 languages.[5] In November 2009, WordPress had more than 60 million downloads per month.[6] In March 2010, WordPress had more than 77 million users.[7]
WordPress is available for free under the GNU General Public License (GPL),[8] which means that anyone can download, change, modify or distribute its codebase for any purpose.
Sign Up For WordPress Account
You can sign up with a username, email address and password.
Creating a username:
Choose something that is meaningful to you. You can use your name, company name or anything else that you want to be associated with your site. Make sure that the username is not already taken by someone else, as this may cause problems later on.
Creating an email address:
You can either use an existing email address (such as Gmail or Hotmail) or create a new one (such as Yahoo) for your account. The best option for WordPress is to use an existing free email account because it will mean less hassle when signing in later on.

The service is developed by the WordPress Foundation, which also oversees the development of WordPress.org — the open source version of WordPress.

This will take you to your profile page where you can fill out all of your information.
After entering your personal information, you’ll be prompted to create a password and then confirm it. Once you’ve done that, click on “Create Account” in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
If you’re ready to get started, follow these steps to sign up for a new account:
1. Go to wordpress.com/signup and click “Create an account”
2. Enter your email address, password and nickname. Make sure you use a valid email address so we can send you an activation link

4. You’ll be taken to a page where you can log in using the username and password you just created
Registering for WordPress is a simple process. If you already have an account, you can sign in and start the registration process.
To get started, navigate to WordPress.org/activate (you may need to scroll down) and click on “Sign Up For A New Account”. You will then be taken to the Create An Account page where you can enter your email address and choose your username. Once this is done, you will be asked to create a password for your new WordPress account.
Once you have created an account, it is time to activate it!
Navigate to the Dashboard (wp-admin) and click on “My Blog” in the top right corner of the screen to access your blog dashboard. On this page, under “My Sites” click on “Activate” next to the name of your blog/site (if you don’t see “Activate” then go back and check if you completed all of the steps above). This will bring up another tab asking for your activation email address again – once entered press submit and you should receive an email from WordPress confirming that your site has been activated successfully!
1. Go to http://www.wordpress.org/ and click the “Get Started” button.
2. Fill out your information, choose a username and password, and click “Create account.”
3. You’ll need to verify your email address before you can log in. Once WordPress has sent you an email with a link to confirm your account, click on that link to log in for the first time.
