Durango is known as Colorado’s mountain biking mecca with over 200 miles of trails throughout the city. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad takes passengers back in time on this historic train ride through the Rocky Mountains. Visitors can also enjoy shopping at the many unique shops downtown or visit Fort Lewis College for a game between the Mountaineers and Skyhawks.
Cortez is an old mining town that was settled in 1882 when gold was discovered in the area by John Mossman and his partner Albert Hittson who named their claim “Empire”. Cortez is located just north of Dolores River Canyon which offers some great rafting opportunities during spring runoff periods.
