Dell is a multinational computer technology company based in Round Rock, Texas, United States, that develops, sells and supports computers and related products and services. The company is a subsidiary of Dell Technologies, which was formed by the 2016 merger of Dell’s parent company with EMC Corporation’s data storage business.

The company sells personal computers (PCs), servers, data storage devices, network switches, software, computer peripherals, HDTVs and electronics built by other manufacturers. The company is well known for its innovations in supply chain logistics and just-in-time manufacturing.

Dell was a pure hardware vendor for much of its existence but has more recently moved into providing complete solutions—delivery of hardware, software and services—to large organizations. The company provides services to consumers via its online portal Dell.com as well as through social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook. It also manufactures servers for internal use under the Dell PowerEdge brand name.

Xeon servers

Xeon servers have been the standard for many years now and remain so today. Xeon servers are available in two main types: Xeon E3-1200 v5 series and the Xeon E5-2600 v4 series. The Xeon E3-1200 v5 range is based around the new Skylake microarchitecture and offers a good balance between performance and power consumption. The latest generation of Intel Core processors from Skylake onwards have been designed to work well with DDR4 memory so it’s no surprise that this type of memory is often used in this range of servers. The Xeon E5-2600 v4 series uses Broadwell-E which was released in 2016 and has an improved architecture which allows for higher frequencies than previous generations of Intel CPUs. It also supports up to four memory channels which means that there can be up to 128GB of RAM installed on each CPU (depending on how much you want to spend!).
