2: Cut 2x4s and plywood parts for the front and back of your bench seat (Photo 2). Use 1/2-in.-thick plywood if you want more support under the seat area than 3/4-in.-thick plywood will provide. Make sure all cuts are square so they fit together properly when assembled later on.

3: Attach front and back panels to sides with galvanized finish nails (Photo 3). Then measure from each end of each side panel and mark where you want the top of your box lid (or backrest) to be located so it’s flush with edges of panels on each side of

How to Build a Storage Bench Seat

A seating bench or storage bench is a great addition to any home. It can be used in the garden, indoors or as an extra seat in the living room. This storage bench has a lid that lifts up, allowing you to store items inside.

This project requires basic carpentry skills and tools. The materials cost about $100.

Materials:

One sheet of plywood (at least 5/8-inch thick)

One 4x4x8 foot cedar post

Four 2x4s for legs

Twelve 1x2s for legs (cut into 22-inch lengths)

It’s a simple storage bench with lid. I used pine for the project and the size is about 60×32. It took me about 10 hours to build it (including the time spent on making tenons and mortises).

I started by cutting all my pieces to size and then I made some mortises in each leg (for the top part of the seat). After that, I cut one half of the mortises for the bottom part of the seat and glued them together using biscuits.

After that, I drilled holes for my dowels (to join both parts of the seat) and glued them together with Titebond III glue. After that, I cut some grooves between both parts of the seat (to make it look nicer). Then I drilled holes in both sides of each leg at their ends and glued them together using dowels (to make it stronger).

I have been building storage bench seats for years and wanted to share some of my tips and tricks. The first thing you need to do is decide what size storage bench you want. This will determine the size of your seat board, so if you don’t know how to measure (I’ll explain below), then take a look at this article on how to measure correctly.

Once you’ve determined the size of your seat board, you need to decide what type of wood will be best for your project. Here are some tips:

Make sure it’s straight! You don’t want crooked legs or sloping sides. You can check for this by measuring an inch or two from the end, then holding a straight edge against the face of the board and using a pencil or ruler to mark off where it touches. If it doesn’t line up perfectly every time, it’s not straight enough for building furniture with it.

Check for knots in the wood and avoid them if possible because they can cause problems later on in the project when drilling holes through them or screwing into them with screws or nails (remember that knots are weaker than normal wood).

Make sure there aren’t any splits in the boards (cracks along their length) because these will also weaken their strength
